Please save some snow for Christmas,
Sincerely,
Steve
After the minor pounding we got on Wednesday winter returned to our region at just the right time 6:15-6:30 in the morning. Anyone with kids or works at a school knows that getting pounded with near blizzard conditions at this time isn’t good. Kids in High School are driving in it and elementary students are waiting at a bus stop getting drowned in the white wonder flakes. It started to come down hard about 6:45 and by the time the car was pulled out out the garage the roads where close to impassible with anything other than a four wheel drive vehicle. This makes nearly 8 inches total for December thus far.

Yes ladies and gents it’s that day where people line up for the bargain basement prices on such things as HDTVs, 5.99 DVDs, etc…
Yours truly will be arriving at Bestbuy tomorrow morning at around 3:00ish to see if I can grab a 32” LCD HDTV for $599.99 and then run over to Circuit City to grab a digital camera for $205 it’ll be an interesting experience for sure.
Have a great Thanksgiving Day everyone and stay warm(for those in the midwest).

The telegraph.co.uk News Website from britain reported recently on a man from Indonesia that looks like something out of a horror movie. He’s the tree man..
I’ll spare my viewers and not show the pictures instead link to the article. Apparently The discovery Channel had a special on this guy, but alas the US counterpart doesn’t air the show My Shocking Story.
Tree Man could be cured by Vitamin C
I wish Diabetes could be cured soo simply, but then again I’d rather have it than what this guy is going through even worse off than count choculitis.

Looks like Newegg is jumping gun. The new AMD 790 series motherboard chipsets and boards are due to be launched on or near the 15th of this month along with Phenom.
It’s a Gigabyte board which isn’t too bad though it still uses the SB600 southbridge which isn’t bad as I hear the SB700 isn’t anything more than more than usb ports which SB600 already has alot of. Remember while this board is meant for the new AM2+ Phenom chip it can also accept older AM2 chips.

I’m sure the majority of us have heard about the writers guild of America is striking. They deserve what they are asking for, but they also need to realize that sooner or later their going to affect more than just themselves. Shows like the Office have completely shut down production which means things like this will happen. People don’t get paid fairly go on strike it affects more than just themselves. Hopefully this doesn’t go on much longer shows like the Office doesn’t have more than one episode in the pipeline then it’s reruns and crappy reality shows.

NBC oh NBC you where doing so good then you went and did something that will no doubt hit you square in the ass as you walk out the door. That door belongs to the largely successful Itunes music/video store from that little corporation called Apple. I don’t rely on Itunes for a lot of my television purchases I do on occasion purchase an episode if our weatherman on channel 4 breaks in for 30 minutes when an insignificant thunderstorm comes through Columbus and my DVR records his fat behind for the duration of that show. The problem according to NBC is pricing, and piracy.
Pricing goes like this Apple likes flat fees for everything music .99, tv shows .99 to 1.99, and movies anywhere from 9.99 to 12.99. NBC didn’t like that money turns everyone into greedy sobs NBC didn’t like that Apple was selling it’s content at an already astronomical rate of 1.99 for 30 minutes even 2-3minutes when they decided to sell individual SNL skits. Nope NBC wanted as much as 4.99 for that content and like what Apple did with Universal Music they said our way or the highway. I’m sure some will say boo and hiss because Apple fixes their prices and doesn’t allow the content owner to charge what they please or that Apple has problems with open sourcing or allowing other media devices to play these files boo freaking whoo the content might still be their if it was the other way around, but the prices would be much higher I’m all for lower prices.
We then come to piracy apparently Apples DRM system Fairplay isn’t good enough so now instead of going to a legal alternative and putting money into NBCs pocket people will use their DVRs, Bittorrent or if their determined enough they’ll sware off NBC all together a bit drastic for most, but some like to make a stink about things.
Bad decision NBC you wanted piracy here it comes.

I sat frustrated 3 nights ago when my almost 2 1/2 year old HP NX6125 notebook decideds it doesn’t want to detect the primary battery let alone charge it. The memory card reader is also damaged from an unfortunate accident with a memory stick duo card I’ll be charged 80 something dollars for that according to my support specialist. The experience wasn’t the worst I’ve been treated to, but it was a trying afternoon. So let me paint a picture for you the laptop has what appears to be a dead battery it will work fine with the ac adapter plugged in, but once you remove the only source of juice it has it’s lights out.
Imagine my surprise when both support specialist individuals suggested I follow battery calibration procedures and battery status checks both failed miserably because well the system can’t see the battery for some reason or another. This banter went on with the first guy until basically talked me into a corner to try the manual battery check which gasp involved me unplugging the laptop in safe mode which as I had told him earlier would result in the notebook powering down immediately like it doesn’t have any juice. After rebooting and entering a new chat session got a different person but it was the same song and dance eventually after he or she(wasn’t american, but spoke good english)finally figured out that the card reader damage was in fact causing cards not be read or found the “specialist” said it will need to either sent to them for repair or taken to an HP certified repair center which while their was such a place only 15 miles from my home I know of this place, and would not trust them with my laptop so I chose to send it in it’s a 6 to 8 day turn around for repair. I wasn’t expecting them to make such dumb assumptions, but I was in all honesty expecting much worse. At least their “script” had a bit of leeway in it.

In a haze of confusion from some toxic fumes from a burning ballast on a light in my office I wound up stupidly picking up a dvd purchasing it and finding out halfway home from Best Buy that the darn thing is in a full screen aspect ratio. Which brings me to my point of this post why on earth do retailers insist on carrying full screen titles. I can understand the token 80′s movie or old classic film being in that ratio, but new titles that release with wide and full. I’m sure a soccer mom running in to get the latest disney movie or gulp a Sex and the City season could care less what aspect ratio a movie is in because she and a good number of our dimwitted population doesn’t know that a you’re buying an inferior cut of a movie.
I’m sure even some will cry well if I bought the widescreen version my tv will give me two black bars. Big deal black bars are better than missing information from an entire scene. Fullscreen or Pan Scan dvds and gasp VHS tapes actually cut off a substantial amount of information from the left and right hand sides of an entire scene/movie. For instance you watch a widescreen version of a movie at a friends house enjoyed it. Then later on a different friend has the same movie, but in full screen you liked the movie so you watch it. In that movie you liked the part where the three characters are talking to each other, but their’s a problem the third guy isn’t even on the screen he’s off to the side of the dang tv somewhere. I won’t get into the nitty gritty details that what Wikipedia is for. Sure not everyone has a widescreen monitor/television big deal you’ll still get the same experience on a 4:3 tv except that the image is compressed by the tv on the top and bottom that’s better than a dvd authoring studio chopping a movie into a version so ma and pa can watch it on their old cabinet CRT television they’ve had since the late seventies.
Needless to say I won’t be tearing the wrapping off this movie I’ll be exchanging it tomorrow for the right version.
I call for a seperate section bigger labeling or double sided titles when the studio insists on having a full screen dvd.

Creative has been at the top many peoples s**t list lately because of it’s lacking Windows Vista support. When Microsoft pulled the rug out beneath them when they improved the audio stack in Vista they had to start from scratch. The drivers released March 8th by Creative deliver on their promise that they would have drivers by March. However a laundry list of issues still exists, and the applications the sound boards ship with are not updated for the new OS. With Microsoft pulling direct sound out of the audio stack and not allowing kernel mode drivers Creative has it’s hands full trying to deal with hostile customers and trying to code drivers at the same time.
The Creative Labs Vista support forum is full of posts of people unsatisfied by the quality of support they’re being given. This thread started by a Creative employee firstly shows a big list of things this current driver does not support.
If you do happen to own an X-Fi sound card and would like to walk the plank you can download the drivers here >> http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ .
From way things are shaping up it might be June or July before I can install Vista on my desktop which is a shame.
